Gianni Maddalozzo, senior instructor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Science, is studying Whole Body Vibration workouts, health benefits of vibration plates to build muscle and bone mass and to increase strength and balance in hip replacement patients. In addition to rehabilitation, another potential benefit is warming up prior to strenuous workouts. Maddalozzo admits that people are sometimes amused by the idea. But, he says, the health benefits of vibration plates are real. Studies by researchers at the Societa Stampa Sportiva in Rome, Italy and at Stony Brook University in New York have shown that Whole Body Vibration platform regimes have a significant effect on bone formation and muscle strength.

“Whole Body Vibration training has been shown to be as efficient as standard resistance training for improving strength and balance in older women,” Maddalozzo adds.

“We have demonstrated that whole-body vibration prevents weight gain in animals. We are also encouraged by our findings that Whole Body Vibration training was effective in improving physical function while reducing body mass, fat mass and percent body fat and maintaining lean mass in older adults. Preliminary studies also suggest that Whole Body Vibration health benefits of vibration plates can preserve bone health and promote fat loss in adults among older, frail populations with physical limitations.”

There are numerous scientific studies, using control groups, strict observation by professionals and accurately recorded and reported results, proving beyond any doubt that bone mass and density is increased with Whole Body Vibration training and therapy show health benefits of vibration plates.
